ARC/CESSNA RT 385A* - Faceplate installation directions

Material - .032" Matte black / white text, 1 piece.  Backed with double faced tape for easy installation.

*RT-385A (Small)     RT-385A (Large)

Note: This radio trim border comes in two widths, to determine the correct faceplate needed, measure the faceplate trim border as shown in the drawing.  If it is 1/8" wide, order the small insert or if it is 1/16" wide then order the large insert.

Before you begin: Check to see if you received the proper faceplate insert. Are the numbers the same as your radio? Does it fit correctly? Although the holes and text will be the same, many faceplate manufacturers made different widths or heights of the same faceplate. (Just to make life a little more interesting)

1. Have this insert installed by an avionics shop if you do not have all the proper tools, are not a qualified technician or are not sure you are capable of doing this job.
2. Make sure the new faceplates insert fits correctly. Most radios have more than one size and you'll want to make sure it is correct before removing the radio from the aircraft.
3. If your faceplate needs painting, remove it from the radio by taking out the 4 attachment screws on the side of the faceplate. The knobs can be removed by using an Allen or Bristle spline wrench which can be purchased at Aircraft Engravers.
4. Place tape over the two rectangular windows to protect them from the spray paint (front and back sides). Just as long as the tape stays within the recessed area you don't have to be exact. The new insert will cover any paint over spray.
5. Paint the faceplate with a quality paint such as Krylon's® 1613 Semi-Flat Black paint.  If you want a silver border around the outer rim use a Testor's® silver paint stick. They are found in most hobby stores.
6. When the paint is dry remove the tape and the old text decal. Try using a small screwdriver to start lifting it off. Removing the old decal will let the light through to illuminate the text if your unit has the installed light bulbs (most will not have them).
7. Remove the double-faced tape backing on the new insert.
8. Place new insert on faceplate.
9. Re-install faceplate and knobs on the radio.
10. Tell all your aircraft buddies about Aircraft Engravers and place the enclosed sticker on the metal case for future reference.
