KING KX-155 - Faceplate installation directions

Before you begin: Check to see if you received the proper faceplate insert. Are the numbers the same as your radio? Does it fit correctly? Although the holes and text will be the same, many faceplate manufacturers made different widths or heights of the same faceplate. (Just to make life a little more interesting)

1. Have this insert installed by an avionics shop if you do not have all the proper tools, are not a qualified technician or are not sure you are capable of doing this job.
2. Remove the faceplate from the radio.
3.

Tape up the lens area to protect it from painting (both inside and out). Do not tape the inside lip area if possible, as this should be painted. Also tape the backside to protect from any paint over spray.

4. Die grind or file the raised text on the lower section only until flush.
5. Fill any dents with a plastic auto body or model hobby filler.
6. Lightly sand areas to be painted with a fine grit sandpaper for good paint adhesion.
7. Paint the faceplate with a quality paint such as Krylon'sŪ 1613 Semi-Flat Black paint.
8. After the paint has dried fully, remove the protective tape.
9. Scrape the paint from the trim areas and the text by the white buttons. If using a hobby knife, insert the blade in backwards and use the sharp edge to do the scraping. Or clean up the trim areas by laying it face down on some 400 to 600 grit sandpaper that is on a flat surface, sand it being careful to keep it flat.
10. Remove the double face tape backing from the new insert.
11. Place the new insert onto the faceplate. Reinstall faceplate onto the radio.
12. Tell all your aircraft buddies about Aircraft Engravers and place the enclosed sticker on the metal case for future reference.
